The Whole Armour of God
The Whole Armour of God
Ephesians 6:10-20
Paul in Ephesians 6:10 tells us to "be strong in the Lord." Then he tells us how. Verse 11 "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."
We start with the 'belt of truth' (6:14). As Christians we must know God's truth to stand against Satan. We see this when Satan tempts Jesus (Matthew 4:1-11). He knew the truth!
Next the 'breastplate of righteousness' (6:14). We must keep God's commands and be righteous before him. Then the 'boots of peace' (6:15). Verse 15 says "And your feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace." We must be prepared to do the work of the Lord.
Above all 'the shield of faith' (6:16). The devil will throw many things our way and we must have faith in God to withstand them.
Last is the 'helmet of salvation' and 'sword of the spirit' (6:17). Verse 17 says that these are the word of God. The word of God should be our armour, shield, and sword. So we must always have the word with us if we are going to withstand the wiles of the devil (Psalm 119:11). So suit up!
