For the time will come

2 Timothy 4:2-5

In today’s world there are many who do not believe that Jesus will come back or that there is even a God. There are also many who do not know anything about the Bible. Matthew 7:13-14 says that broad is the way to destruction and narrow is the way unto salvation. Meaning there are many who choose not to follow God and few who will follow.

As Christians we know that Jesus is coming back and what will happen when he does (Matthew 25:31-46, 2 Peter 3:10-11, Jude 14, Matthew 7:21-23). Not everyone in the world today knows this. It is our duty as Christians to let the world know and prepare them for this. 2 Timothy 4:2 says preach the word. This is a command from God.

Many people talk of problems to fix and that the church is dwindling, yet they do not teach or do anything about it. It is our responsibility to go into all the world and teach (Mark 16:15, Matthew 28:18-20). The hard part is people 9 times out of 10 do not want to hear it. We still must teach in any way we can. That can be preaching, singing, studies, or by example.

If no one teaches then no one can learn. Just as 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says not everyone will listen, but who listens and ignores is not for us to determine. That is for them to choose. Our job is to “Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” Not teaching someone is giving that person one less opportunity to obey the gospel that could be the difference between them being saved or being lost forever.
