The King and His Ambassadors
Matthew 10
September 2018

The term “Ambassador” is drawn from Ephesians 6:20 where Paul spoke of himself as “An ambassador in chains.” The word “ambassador” is a form of the word for “old” or “older.” As a rule, secular ambassadors of that day were older men. If Paul was “an ambassador,” so were the other apostles. Matthew 10 stresses that the apostles represented Jesus. The primary task of an ambassador is to represent the one who sends them.

Reaching Out To The Unlovable
July 2018

The idea of reaching out to others is not new. The greatest “Reacher-Outer” who ever lived is Jesus Christ. He reached out to people wherever He went – the sick, the blind, the lame, the grieving, the sinful – and those He touched were never the same again. In the church, we are to be followers of Jesus (1 Pet. 2:21). He is our Head (Eph. 1:21, 22), and we are to be His hands, His feet, His lips. We are to be members (parts) of His body (Rom. 12:5). According to the Great commission (Matt. 28:18-20), we fail to act as the Lord’s church if we do not reach out to people with our lives and with the gospel. Mark 5 presents a story about Jesus reaching out and touching a man – a man who was unlovely and unlovable.

Love, Tears, and Forgiveness
June 2018

Jesus loved to eat with others. He ate with His disciples (Mark 14:14; Luke 22:15). He ate with His friends (Luke 10:38-42; John 12:1, 2). He ate with tax collectors and sinners (Luke 5:29, 30). He even ate with Pharisees (Luke 11:37-54; 14:1-6). As far as we know, Christ never turned down an invitation to dinner. Luke 7:36-50 tells about the first time Jesus was invited to eat with a Pharisee. A surprising turn of events gave rise to one of Jesus’ most touching messages on love and forgiveness.

You Are More Valuable Than You Think!
Matt. 5:13-14, 16
March 2018

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men… “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

The Call To Discipleship”
February 2018

One of the most commonly used terms in the Bible for a follower of Jesus is “disciple” (Mt. 5:1; 8:21, 23; 9:19; Acts 6:1, 2, 7; 9:1). “Disciple” is a translation of the Greek word mathetes that means learner. In the fullest sense, a disciple was one who followed a teacher (Mt. 16:24), learned from the teacher (Mt. 11:29), and then followed the dictates of that teacher (Jn. 8:31). A close teacher/disciple relationship existed. A true disciple became like his teacher (Mt. 10:25).

Acts 8:26-28
Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." This is desert. 27 So he arose and went. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.”

Cornelius - Religious - But Wrong!
Acts 10:1-6
There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. 3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, "Cornelius!" 4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, "What is it, lord?" So he said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God. 5 "Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter. 6 "He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do."”

Apollos - Religious - But Wrong!
Acts 18:24-26
And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.”

Building on the Sand
Matthew 7:24-27

Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 "and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Evangelism: The Key to Church Growth!
2 Tim. 2:1-7

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully. 6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.” (2 Tim. 2:1-7)
